Bearbrick Action Figures
Designed and manufactured by MediCom Toy Incorporated, Bearbrick is an action toy figure. The name comes because of the cartoon-like bear appearance of this toy. The use of the at sign instead of the letter a is part of the branding exercise carried out by the toy company. Bearbrick is a anthropomorphized (like a human, with human feelings) bear in an extremely simple form and with a pot belly. Each of the bearbrick action figures comprises of 9 parts that are head, torso, hips, arms, hands, and legs; each of these 9 parts allow for 8 points of movements like the swivel head and waist, ball joint for arms and legs and swivel wrists.
The first bearbrick figure was introduced in May 2001 as a freebie to those who visited the World Character Convention 12. Gauging the popular of the toy, many more Be@rbricks have been introduced in many different sizes, in many different materials such as glow-in-the-dark plastic, felt and wood. The standard height of the bearbrick figure is 7 cms and is known as 100% Bearbricks. Other Bearbricks, based on their sizes, are called 50% (4cms), 70% (5cms), 400% (28 cms), and 1000% (70cms).
