Voltron Action Figures
Voltron, a Japanese animated TV series that ran for a year back in the mid-80s and was titled Voltron: Defender of the Universe. The Voltron anime series itself was a rip off of two different Japanese animation series Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV. Dubbed into the English language, the anime was made suitable for the viewership of the North American audiences. Voltron is the story about five pilots that fight enemies such as the demonic King Zarkon to save the Arus planet as well as other planets in the universe. Zarkon wants to rule the entire universe but Voltron stands in his way. So what is Voltron? A huge robot that is made up of five spaceships that resemble lions!
Japanese animations have a wide appeal throughout the globe. And rightly so. With excellent imagery and creativity, Japanese cartoons have been winning hearts of children for decades. Perhaps that’s why the Voltron toy action figures came into existence. It was the early 1980s when a Japanese toy maker first made several metallic Voltron toys. Distributed by Matchbox toys in North America, Voltorn line of toys included action figures, vehicles, and a castle as well. However, these toys disappeared from the scene for over 10 years and were reintroduced again in 1997 as a whole new line by the Trendmaster. The highlight of this collection was a 15” robot.
