Action Man

Launched in the UK, this boys’ action figure toy was a huge hit back in the 1960s. The original manufacturer, Palitoy based the Action Man on Hasbro’s flexible, fighting man – G.I. Joe. The first set of Action Man action figures to released included Action Soldier, Action Sailor, and Action Pilot. Each of these figs was available in 4 different hair colors - Blonde, Auburn, Brown and Black. The Action Man figs wore WW II soldier’s outfits. And once again in 1993, Action Man was reintroduced. The Action Man’s head is made of hard vinyl and painted showing a bloodless scar on the cheek, which is also his trademark and similar to G.I. Joe’s. The Action Man action figures of the 1970s have a more pinkish color and smaller feet. Put in place using elastic, they had crimped metal eyelets; legs were riveted, while metal hooks retained the neck and shoulders. The initial figs of Action Mans have hands that are exactly same as GI Joe’s and the accessories were glued in to hold them in place. However, 1970s Action Man figs had hands that could grip accessories. If you already have a GI Joe collection, maybe it’s time to build your Action Man collection now that you know so much about this brave, all-boys action figure!
